Your kind face an homage to a simpler time

By Sarah O’Brien

I’ll always remember you as a lady who took the time,

to rescue a bereft animal caught in a bind,

In your riding boots and warm friendly grin you were a force to be reckoned with, a force for good,

The sheep-farm to me,

a walking route tried and true,

holds so many memories for me and for you.

Often a time we met you at the gate, my mother and I,

You’d always salute us and we’d reciprocate,

Midge you were a part of my childhood, unbeknownst to you,

a friendly neighbour and a dog lover too,

Times are hard and people grow sad but it’s important to remember there is always a way back,

Your journey does not end here no matter where you are,

with a family to love you, even if it’s from afar,

Your neighbours are still neighbours and though quiet we may be,

you’ll never be forgotten and will remain,

always,

a part of our memory.
